Love this, Jo. How fortunate you were/are, to have shared Rae's growing-up and have all those pleasures to remember--and to share. As I write this, I am watching a quartet of crows under a pecan tree, doing their morning dance with the squirrel who thinks that tree and all its nuts is his. Silly squirrel! Your post helps me understand that dynamic a little better. Thank you.
So lovely...and so familiar. We had the same experience with a starling when we lived at the old place...such an amazing privilege and gift to be a part of their lives for even a short while. We called our friend, Gobi (apparently a character from a Flintstones episode?) ..and yes, she too did the screaming in your ear thing when she wanted food...can't ignore that! I'm glad you got to be a part of each other's lives for a while. I have no doubt that she remembers you - and will tell her kin that you're an easy mark for good food and good company. xo ps. I still think of Gobi when I see starlings...
I'm envious, Mel. Although starlings are plentiful in the village nearby, they don't seem to venture the couple of miles out to us and I love them! What a joy to know Gobi.
We have Punch and Judy. Always too busy seeing off seagulls to speak to us. Although there have been moments but we're not sure if they're just being plain rude! Nothing like this fabulous story of yours.
This story is so beautiful. Thank you.
Such a gorgeous story - thank you!!
Thank you Cheryl, I'm so glad you liked it.
Quite honestly, that post made me well up.
I think that says something rather lovely about you, Gabriel!
Oh I don’t know about that! But I loved the post.

Oh I love squirrels, Susan! But as crafty as they are, they'll need to be smart to outwit a crow. Thank you for reading.

Great names! The two bullies who picked on Rae are Bonnie & Clyde. They don’t suffer fools!
