Sonya Your beautiful, loving, kind appreciative words, filled me with such joy as you merge with the simple beauty of nature fill my soul with beauty. So very grateful to you
Jo, this is beautiful...the kind of writing I am beginning to move toward as I too feel so deeply the turning of the seasons; my husband (a painter) and I often speak about the relationship between ourselves and, 'place.' You capture our sentiments here perfectly. ♡
Ah yes. Here, it's the 'training flights' of the Canada geese and the gathering of starlings in tree-tops. It's crickets and crows and skunks roaming in the early hours. I caught the tiniest whiff of autumn the other day.....it drifted in on a warm breeze, but it's scent was recognizable. Beautiful piece, Jo....thank you. xo
Having that attachment to one's home place is a wonderful feeling, isn't it? This year I tuned in more deeply to exactly where the morning sun hits first in the woods outside my front window. In May and June it hits closer to my front window, but now it slants more deeply into the woods across the road at first light. Slowly the rays slant deeper into the forest floor. It is my most mindful time of day.
Such a lovely image of a moment in time. Wood pigeons are the soundtrack to my growing up in a small village and taking a slow walk home when I wasn't quite ready to come in out of the sun.
It is so near, isn't it? But not quite here. The sniff of autumn.

Wow, Biscuit Tiberius Woodpigeon - what a gorgeous!
I very much share your urge to join the Jackdaws. I wouldn't mind joining the Swallows, either...x
